Last month I mentioned I would provide some background to the recent launch of our Private Members Community (PMC) so here it is. There have been a number of events along the way that have provided the motivation to bring this idea to fruition but I see this as just the beginning of something that will evolve over time.
One of the earliest articles I published on substack was My Health Journey (October 2022) which chronicled my own experience of turning indifferent health into much improved health with the aim of inspiring others to do the same.
Then in November 2023, I wrote the piece Are GP’s becoming an endangered species? which was spurred by the rollout of the new eConsult triage system which has been met with mixed reviews and yet embraced by thousands of Surgeries across the Country.
So as a consequence of this and the Covid debacle it has become increasingly difficult to arrange a face-to-face doctors appointment within a reasonable timeframe so I felt it was time to offer a different approach.
Stories still abound of waiting weeks to see a doctor and eConsult not delivering within the stated timeframes so it seemed obvious the best way to stay out of the clutches of the medical system was to proactively look after yourself. But where do you start?
The research I conducted during 2024 led me to the conclusion there was a knowledge gap between what many People perceived to be available to what actually is available. There is no better example of this than in the field of blood testing where it is common to hear People say:
“Why would I pay for a blood test when I can get a free one at my doctors?”
So let us scrutinize that a little more closely:
Firstly, we have already established that for a variety of reasons it may take longer than expected to see your doctor.
Secondly, GP’s are reluctant to order blood tests at the request of their Patients preferring to arrange tests when they consider it necessary.
Thirdly, if they are willing to arrange a test it would invariably be on a private basis so we have now come full circle with the cost falling back onto the Patient.
So the original statement is not as straightforward as it first appears.
Our blood tests, by the way, are provided through our partnership with Sussex Pathology, an ISO-Accredited Lab which in addition to the standard tests, allows us to create bespoke tests if necessary but I wonder how many are aware of this?
Then the question arises, why test at all? The simple answer is, if you wish to be proactive then it is important to understand what is going on inside and blood testing offers the crucial baseline information on which to make informed health choices.
Our test, treat, monitor, re-test approach (TTMR-T) is designed to provide scientific monitoring because as the old adage says: bloods don’t lie. Our red blood cells replenish every 120 days or so, thereby providing a dynamic snapshot of the changes taking place both good and not so good.
Our Partnership arrangement also allows us to set the pricing which means we can pass on cost-savings directly to our members.
The knowledge vault
A key part of the PMC was the creation of the knowledge vault to plug the knowledge gap. This comprises an ever-growing list of ebook titles covering topics such as sleep, hydration, vitamin D and zinc to name a few. Automatic subscription to our monthly newsletters and substack articles offer further curated health insights.
Private facebook group
An essential element of the Community is to provide guidance and support so I was keen to create a sense of belonging to a group of like-minded People, on a similar path with similar targets. This private group also offers a safe space for general questions and provides access to the knowledge vault.
The 1:1 Consultations are where health plans can be created for those who need them and also where regular progress check-ins take place. The group meetings offer Q&A sessions together with the opportunity of gaining further insights from outside health experts. If you haven’t had a chance to review the full range of membership benefits you can do so here.
The monthly subscription of £14.99 per person per month was set at a level that ensured access to the resources remained accessible to all.
PMC for businesses
The monthly rate and benefits remain the same. However, this version offers an opportunity for companies to invest in the health and wellbeing of their staff by paying for their membership, thereby providing the support they need to thrive both at work and in life.
